Bagerhat is one of the greatest. It is well-known historical place.
In mid-15 century, a Muslim colony was founded in the inhospitable mangrove forest of the Sundarbans near the seacoast in Bagerhat district by a saint Ulugh Khan Jahan Ali.
Bagerhat is mainly famous for the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali. Khan Jahan Ali was a great Muslim Saint. The Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali is a fine one-strayed building. It has beautiful dome. Hazrat Khan Ali Was buried there. The tomb is made of cut out stones. On the tomb there are writings in Arabic that he died on, 25 October, 1459. There is a beautiful mosque near the Mazar. Sometimes big fair took place beside the Mazar. Many people from different parts of the country came to visit this historical place. There is a big tank in front of the Mazar. The stately fabric of the monument stands on the eastern bank of a vast sweet –water tank. Clustered around by the heavy foliage of a low lying countryside characteristic of a seacoast landscape. The local people call it the Dighi of Khan Jahan Ali. There are some crocodiles in this big tank. They come near when the fakirs call and give them something to eat. But two crocodiles is very famous this big tank there name Kala pahar and Dhola pahar. But it fantastic that this two crocodiles are not harmful for man they are very useful for man. But this time two crocodiles death. Some a few days much foreign crocodiles leave this tank. But this they are not useful for man. There is a Shatgambuj Mosque. It is a very large and fantastic building. The mosque is roofed over with 77 squat domes, including 7 chauchala or four-sided domes in the middle row. The vast prayer hall is provided with 11 arched doorways on east and 7 each on north and south for ventilation and light. It has seven longitudinal aisles and 11 deep bays by a forest of slender stones columns. From this columns spring rows of endless arches, supporting. The arches are six feet in thickness, have slightly tapering hollow and round walls. The internal and the exterior of the mosque give a view of rather plain architecture but the interior western wall of the mosque was beautifully decorated with terracotta flowers and foliage. The tourists and visitors are greatly impressed by this great mosque. Near the mosque there is a big Dighi. This is called the ‘Ghora Dighi’ after the name of the horse. There is a saying that before digging the Dighi, a horse was made to run a certain distance and that distance was accepted as the length of the Dighi. Khan Jahan had social workers. He adorned his city with numerous mosques, tanks, roads and public building. Now it is one of the greatest tourist attractions and best architectural beauties of Bangladesh.
